No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

September 12th, 2015 at 4:21

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
