Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players around the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
