Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

January 15th, 2019 at 6:25

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While playing online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
