Omaha Hi Lo: Basic Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many entrants can get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in nearly all poker games.
The lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.
While it seems complex at the start, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an amazing assortment of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, along with many battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha High-Low.
