Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved gambling on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. The definite advancement in his game happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would often challenge one another. Howard was able to access a few of the best players in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his strategic thinking skills. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
