Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
