Omaha Hi/Lo: Basic Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting follows where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players can get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, following a few hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many individuals trying for the high, as well as several trying for the low hand.
