Stu Ungar is considered by most to the very best No Limit Texas hold’em Poker gambler ever.
The 3 time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and started betting poker before becomming a teenager.
The young bettor started out playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his first gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the small poker genius had turned pro and dropped out of school.
In 1954 Stu entered the history books by winning 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.
The quick speaking wiz kid has been likened, in poker terms, to athletic superstars such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a true talent for playing poker but despite his successes in Holdem poker, he preferred playing gin.
Stu once said that there may several day be a much better NL Texas hold’em player than him but he could not see how anyone could ever be a greater gin gambler.
In 1980 Stu was put on the global map as one of the best Holdem Poker players in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the first time. Amazingly it was the 1st time he had played in the tournament.
The right after year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been luck, by successfully defending his title. And in 1997 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
But this poker legend also struggled with drug abuse and a year right after winning his third title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to doctors, he had died from a cardiac event which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started out with practically nothing but his ability and talent for the casino game which made this poker great a millionaire numerous times over.
